Otomí: Telling the story of Latin American femininity

Otomí: Telling the story of Latin American femininity

For generations, Otomí women have been embroidering their stories onto white fabric. Using color & creatures, the symbolism of long, complicated lives weave through the fabric. The women sit together on dirt floors, crying as they remember their lives, pricking their fingers with the tedium of the craft. Months turn to years & the fabric fills with dirt, blood, tears, & story. When the story is completed, the artisan carries her work down to the river, where she washes away the pain of the process & the colorful creatures come to life.
